Welp! I went to edit my photos this morning for posting and I couldn't find my last meal of the day's photo! You get a sneak peak at tomorrow's breakfast, Hey-o! Basically my camera told me it didn't exist but I did take it nonetheless! So I won't let it get to me a simple photo-op foodie pic fail.
Today's topic I want to talk about cooking oils and why there is a difference in what kind of oil you are pan-searing your chicken, scrambling your eggs in, etc. It came to my knowledge that a lot of people don't know the difference in oils for cooking. I was there once too! Don't get me wrong. I thought I just needed to put some kind of grease, oil, butter, lube in the pan so it wouldn't stick. So why is it important what type of oils you cook your food in. It all comes down to fat and how that fat will be broken down in our bodies. Some have to be cooked at different temperatures to reduce burning, however. Remember I am NOT a certified nutritionist or expert. I am just basing this information on things I have researched and decided, BY CHOICE, to just steer clear of whether the bad rap is fake or foe I made the choice just to include it in my diet or not.
Vegetable Oil
Plain and simple, this didn't exist well over 100 years ago. I am not a Paleo Dieter by any terms but if it has to be extracted unnaturally just stay away from it. I would choose butter any day. It can be found in most processed foods that we buy.
Rapeseed oil
contains high amounts of the toxic erucic acid, which is poisonous to the body. Canola oil is an altered version, also called Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed (LEAR) and it is commonly genetically modified and treated with high levels of pesticides. You can usually find rapeseed oil in your store-bought peanut butters. Scary huh?!
Canola
(modified rapeseed oil) is produced by heating the rapeseed and processing with a petroleum solvent to extract the oil. Then another process of heat and addition of acid is used to remove nasty solids (wax) that occur during the first processing. Say hello to your fellow GMO's (genetically modified organisms!) It may have been "natural" in the past but all has changed. We are basically asking for cancer, disease and other health issues to be invited into our bodies...

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
You have to be careful when you buy EVOO. Most of the labels are misleading. "Extra Virgin Olive Oil!! With 20% Olive Oil!" - Yeahhh.... That's misleading isn't it? Spend the extra $1-$2 for the real deal. I use EVOO with most, almost all my cooking and replace what was once butter. Butter just solidifies in our bodies and turns straight into fat. Blah. Now sure, EVOO is a fat, but it is also a healthy fat. It has no cholesterol where butter is HIGH HIGH HIGH in that range. Google it.
Coconut Oil
Now I cook my eggs in coconut oil, my stir-fry in coconut oil, whatever I want really. Coconut oil is great ALL over. You can use it on your hair, skin, and it's good I've recently heard lately for your teeth as well. (Oil-Pulling) Anyone have any information on this feel free to message me with your knowledge. Coconut oil is great for the heart, it can reduce hunger and it's by far one of my FAVORITE cooking oils to use. However it does not like to be used at a high heat so make sure you don't turn it up too high. Just make sure when you want to real health benefits, you're buying the real stuff, not the refined junk. Choose virgin or organic.
I only put a little bit of info on each of these topics hoping that you'll step up and do some research yourself. Like I said, I'm not an expert and I'm learning everyday but so should you. #BECOMEAWARE of what you are putting into your body!

Sabrina and I killed it at her house yesterday and did the Total Body Cardio FIX while her little man slept! We were off to the grocery store and I got her started on some whole-foods for the week. She tried Chocolate Shakeology yesterday with 1/2 banana and peanut butter. <3 Chris got a deep tissue massage yesterday since he has what they call Military Neck which I guess is not affiliated with the military at all. It is actually something that happens from leaning over too much. The C-Shape in his neck is gone so he's really trying to get it correct.
My Challenge to you for the day and the rest of the week at that is correct your posture. In the car, walking, sitting on the couch, sitting at your desk. WHEREVER work on that to prevent back/neck/hip problems yourself!
Thanks for reading! :)
