First of all, I got to give the credibility for the name of this blog to Paige Hathaway. Hahaha, when I first saw that #hashtag on Instagram I immediately busted out laughing and ever since fell in love with it. So props to you girl. If you don't know who Paige Hathaway is, look her up! Girl is fit to the T and has a banging booty & body.
In addition to that, I want to talk a little bit about why it's important to eat whole fruits and vegetables vs that boxed mac and cheese that takes little effort. I always hear about how people don't have time to prepare their meals and that's totally understandable I want to say I somewhat relate but being a stay-at-home Mom I have instant access to my kitchen. However, my husband and I eat the same foods (usually!!) so if my meal plan says to prep a salad with chicken, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and feta. I'll separate a container for the cheese (ya know so it doesn't get soggy) and slice everything up and cook the chicken the night before. I can't say that I leave my house everyday and go to work for 8-12 hours and come home exhausted and I can't say that I would put as much effort into prepping my meals like I do now because I'm not in the situation. However, if you want it bad enough, wouldn't you make it something to do? I can at least relate and say it's not enjoyable to get screamed at, find things broken or breaking, then have to have conversation about going to time out. Believe it or not having a 2 year old scream at you is a bit draining. Lol.
So why is it so important to fill up on veggies and fruits? Of course the nutritional value but what else? Since they're easy for our bodies to digest and packed full of nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants our bodies soaks it up like a straw. You can overeat easily on anything rich in calories. Steak, potatoes, chips, boxed processed foods (especially high in sodium or sugar yikes!), pasta, breads, even good old peanut butter. Most of those are in grains. It's typically difficult to overeat on fruits and vegetables. Just make sure you find out which are higher in caloric intake or sugars/sodium. I love bananas and should probably pick a different option since they are up there on the chart. Our body fat looooves to hold on to sugar and salt. Especially the common problem areas.
Next time you're hungry grab the celery sticks and dig in. You may give a stink face for a while if you're not used to eating them plain but it's worth the whirl. I don't think I hate spinach but if I have to eat it cooked - plain by itself. I'm not on it's sidelines jumping for joy when I eat it. I know it's good for me though. I'd rather eat that then a fruit roll up ANYDAY. If you would have asked me that a year ago I probably would have said something blindly like, "Uhhh, I'd rather have the fruit roll up because it tastes better." Well of course processed foods taste better. That's why they combine a bunch of chemicals that tell our body's we like it. Hahaha. That doesn't mean it's GOOD for you. If you fill up on a mondo salad. Let's say the one I made yesterday! If I think about how many calories I ate. I probably had a little over 175 in calories. Google my friends.
2 cups of romaine mix - (2 servings, so) 40 calories
1 cup of orange bell peppers - 39 calories
1/2 cup of cherry tomatoes - 16 calories
1/2 cup of cucumbers - 8 calories
1 tbsp of feta cheese - 75 calories
1 tbsp of balsamic vinegar - 17 calories
1 tbsp of red wine vinegar - 3 calories
ADD THAT UP = 198 calories, close enough!
Now let's say you go to.... Eeny Meeny Miney Mo. Panera Bread and you get their Chicken Cobb with Avocado. Sounds like a good choice. I mean chicken is healthy, sure is! Avocado is a great healthy fat! Sure is!! Let's say you demolish that entire serving! You my friend, just ate enough salad for two meals of the day. 650 calories worth... YEP! Don't believe me? it's cool, look for yourself.

Now I obviously could have gone without the feta cheese on my salad but I split up my blue container for the day to have a little avocado on my sandwich and a little feta on my salad & Panera does have better options! Like the Classic Salad? Very decent choice! Much less in calories also. Just make sure you know what's in your food before you decide where you're going. Research ya'll! Basically what I'm saying is, if you take the time to make a big healthy salad, a big healthy sandwich even on a 1/2 pita or 1 slice of bread take off the mayo and use avocado as your spread. Load up on the vegetables that make a salad a salad or a sandwich crunchy and juicy. Take that extra 5 minutes and you'll thank that reward tomorrow. If you're craving something fatty eat some almonds or nuts, legumes, avocado, an oz of cheese something rich in healthy fats. :)

Some days are harder than others. Yesterday my sweet tooth was on blast so today I'm reflecting on how to control that craving. My Shakeology usually does the trick but man.... I bet it was my water intake. Honestly! I was talking about how I'd been slacking and sometimes I forgot that I should be drinking at least 75 oz of water per day. I probably had 60 the day before. I always keep personal tabs on everything I do. We're a country with health problems and I want to at least give it my best shot and my all to know I'm not just another number on their "scale" of weight problems. Be the advantage and show someone that you're working towards a goal. Don't let your life define you. You define your life. Now go eat some veggies and let's have less WEDGIES. & drink lots of H20 Weeeeee! :)
If you've been thinking about committing to a healthier lifestyle. NOW is the time. I have a Challenge Group that I set up privately on Facebook where we hold each other accountable to our goals. Message me for details on what it entails. It's called the Booty Work Challenge for a reason. You have less than 60 days till summer. Don't do it because you want to, do it because you HAVE TO! You KNOW it's good for you! I know I talk about doing it when you're ready but if you feel like you'll never be ready, you need to plan and take the plunge!
